If you are on a tight budget then you might want to consider getting a used washer and dryer vs. a new set.

Perhaps you are in college and living in a dorm room. You may not only want to save money but may be very limited on space.

Some apartments and dorm rooms don't provide hookups for washer and dryers. In this case you might want to consider a portable or mini washer and dryer. These units are small and are great for small loads of delicate items or a couple of shirts. Using these units for small loads will reduce the number of trips you have to make to the Laundromat.

If you are a student you may be able to find a good deal on a used mini or portable unit from a graduating student. Most students don't want to haul to much stuff back home or to their new residence.

If your apartment has washer and dryer hookups but limited floor space then you might want to consider a stackable washer and dryer unit.

Whatever your need, you can save money by purchasing a used washer and dryer.

You will find that people sell their appliances for a number of different reasons. A lot of people are buying a new home and the appliances are coming with the house. Often times their old washer and dryer units are not really very old.

Divorce may cause people to sell their assets and split the profits. Often times these washer and dryer units are only a few years old.

When you plan to keep a washer and dryer for a few years the cost of a used washer and dryer will probably come out a lot less than the sum of all the quarters you will spend at the Laundromat over that period of time. Not to mention how much easier it will be on you than hauling all those clothes back and forth to the Laundromat.

If you want to look online for a used washer and dryer then try sites like Craigslist, and USFreeads. Select your area and see if anyone close by is selling a used washer and dryer. Sometimes you can find one that is willing to give you the washer and dryer if you will just come haul it away.

After you get your used washer and dryer home then clean them inside and out with warm water mixed with some anti-bacterial soap or a disinfectant cleaner like Lysol.

You can also save money by buying just the used washer and then hanging your clothes on a clothes line to dry. You will find that they will have a clean, fresh smell when you bring them in.

Another way to save money on a washer and dryer combination is to look at some of the scratch and dent units that can be found at a number of the local retailers.

Washers and Dryers will normally last quite a few years so if you choose to purchase a new set rather than used you may have an opportunity to make some of your money back by selling them as used units somewhere down the road.
